Message from President

It’s time for another program year and I’m looking forward to working with the board of directors, committees and membership as the 2017-2018 AFWA Wichita Chapter President! Thank you to last year’s board of directors and committee members for all the work you did to continue our success in growing the accounting and finance professions and giving back to the community.

First, I would like to invite and encourage all members to join a committee. It really is the best way to get involved in the organization. Please visit http://wichitaafwa.org/Committees for more information. Contact a member of the board if you are interested in joining a committee or if you have any questions.

•Program/Membership: Plan and coordinate the monthly membership meetings and focus on the recruitment and retention of members

•Newsletter/Website: Develop and maintain the chapter website and Facebook, as well as distribute a periodic newsletter to our membership (and to prospective members)

•Public Relations: Increase brand recognition/public awareness and lead our financial literacy program

•Scholarship: Facilitate the scholarship application and selection process, in addition to leading fundraising for the scholarships

•Social: Organize social events (non-CPE) for our membership to promote networking

•Conferences and events: The National Conference is October 28-30th in Washington D.C. this year. Let a member of the board know if you are interested in attending or for more information.

•CPE: AFWA now offers CPE credit for live participation in their monthly webinars. There are different series you can choose from: Ask the Pro, Savvy Series, and All Things Member. These webinars are free.

•Social networks, publications, discounts and more 

The 2017-2018 Wichita chapter board of directors is looking forward to a great program year. Our annual strategic planning meeting was held on July 12th. We are planning for meeting topics to include workplace safety, financial advising and internal controls. These are in addition to topics we try to cover each year such as accounting, tax, ethics and economic updates. We are also looking forward to some exciting social events such as Trivia Night and a 45th anniversary celebration.

Rachel Hoopes
AFWA Wichita Chapter President 2017-2018

 

Rachel Hoopes is an Accounting Controller at INVISTA, a subsidiary of Koch Industries, Inc. in Wichita, Kansas. She received her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Emporia State University prior to beginning her career with INVISTA. During her eleven years with INVISTA, Rachel has gained experience in a variety of accounting areas and worked on several large projects, including divestitures and a global system implementation. In addition to her accounting career and position as President for the Wichita chapter of Accounting & Financial Women’s Alliance, Rachel also serves on the boards of her local Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and Booster Club. Rachel currently resides in Burrton, Kansas with her husband, Tyler, and their three children, McKinsie, Aiden and Braxton.
