Thank you so much for this opportunity!  I am thrilled to have been selected by the Wichita Chapter to receive this scholarship!

Thank you once again!!

I am currently a senior at Kansas State University studying Accounting and minoring in Leadership Studies.  Following my graduation in May, I will complete a Federal Tax internship before returning to campus in the fall to begin my Master’s degree.  By the time I graduate from grad school, I will have experienced both the private and public sectors through my internships with ConocoPhillips and KPMG.  I plan to sit for the CPA exam and being a career that will allow for me to travel and remain engaged in my current passions.  Through my participation in two faculty-led study abroad engagements, I have developed a curiosity to see the world.  I also have a strong passion for youth leadership.  I currently serve as mentor to youth within foster care and hope this is something I may remain engaged in throughout my lifetime.

I grew up on a small farm in a rural area. I was extremely involved in sports, clubs, and academics in high school. In 2013 I graduated as class valedictorian. My love of anatomy and team atmosphere led me to pursue an Athletic Training Bachelor’s degree and Physical Therapy Doctorate degree at Wichita State University. After my first semester I realized that wasn’t something really I wanted. I then transferred to my true home at Pittsburg State University! I began work on an Administration and Marketing double major. As part of my core business classes I took my first accounting class. After a few tests and assignments my professor approached me. She told me she had noticed I was setting the curve and naturally excelling. She then told me that before the end of the semester she was going to convince me to change my major. She was right. I will graduate a semester early in December of 2016 and immediately begin work on my Masters degree. Once I meet the 150 hour requirement, I plan to begin work on my CPA. I have a tax accounting internship with a CPA firm outside of Dallas, Texas for the summer of 2016. During my time at Pittsburg State University I have been inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma, Sigma Alpha Pi, Beta Gamma Sigma, and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. I am also an Ellis Scholar and a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors Student Chapter.

I grew up in Wichita and graduated from East High.  My background is in the banking industry.  When my son born I left the bank and stayed home with him. I have two young children and I'm very involved in their schools.  I am currently attending Wichita State University pursuing a degree in Accounting and Finance with an expected graduation date of May 2017.

 Thank you.
